Hewan

Cows
Cows are the staple animal of any prosperous farm. Take good care of your cows to milk them for all their worth! You can also enter cows in the annual cow festival.
Price-6,000G

Chickens Chickens are also a major part of Harvest Moon. When you buy your first chicken, and feed it every day, it will give you eggs almost immediately. Chickens are great as one of your first investments to insure a steady income from selling eggs. You can own up to 10 chickens.
Price-1,500G

Dog Your dog is with you from the start. You'll first meet him as a puppy, and in 3 months he will become a full grown dog. Give him attention each day, and make sure to bring him inside on a rainy day. If you get your dog up to ten hearts and train him, he may even win the Dog Race!

Price- Free

Horse Your horse is also given to you for free. Go to Yodel Farm during the first spring and Barley and May will be outside looking at a pony. They'll ask you to take care of it because they don't have room and will then take it to your farm for you. Make sure to buy a brush at the Blacksmith's to brush your horse each day. You will need to raise your horse's heart level to 8 by the first winter or else Barley will take the horse away.

Sheep- Sheep are good money makers, but they do not give wool every day. When you buy your sheep you have to brush, talk and feed it everyday. After a a good amount of time, it will turn into an adult and you will be able to shear it for wool. Price 4,000G

Fish The fish are found in the various rivers and ponds around Mineral Village. You can keep fish in the pond on your farm to hold onto them as well. Buy fish food at the supermarket for 20G a meal if you choose to keep fish on the farm. Even if you have a lot of fish in your pond, you only need to put on fish food in a day. Feed them everyday, and after about 20 days, they will start reproducing. Additionally, if you place a small fish into the pond, in time it will grow to be even larger, allowing you to breed fish to sell.

 Cow
Buying Your First cow
The cow should be the second animal you buy(first being the chicken). A cow costs 6,000G, and you need to have a few fields of grass and some fodder. When you're ready, go to yodel farm and buy a cow. You also want to buy a cow brush, you don't need a milker yet.

Raising Heart Levels
Like any other animal, your cow has 10 hearts. You start with none, and you must raise the cows heart levels so that when it is an adult it gives higher quality milk. To get hearts to raise is quite simple. All you need is a brush and a milker(when it is adult). Simply talk to your cow everyday, brush it, and feed it! Never forget to feed it. It's said that if you let your cow outside on sunny days, the heart level raises more quickly, well read what I have to say on that. When your cow is an adult, feed, talk, brush and milk it everyday to raise it's heart rate! Never forget to do these things!

Letting Cows Outside
Many people say letting your cow outside raises it's heart level more quickly. I have found that this really isn't worth it! The cows move very slowly (more slow than in HM64) and are a hassle to herd out into the field. Heart levels can rise quickly as long as you use the tips I said above, without spending precious time pushing the cows around.

Cow Festival
To win the cow festival, basically your cow has to have 10 heart. You most likely will not win the first year, unless you got your cow early on and got it's hearts up, but if you have a cow and the second year comes by you will most likely win. Use the tips in the "Raising Heart Levels" section and you should do fine!

Prices of Milk/Cheese
When you have a cow, and it is an adult, you can milk it every day. If you have a cheese machine, you can turn milk into cheese! Below is the price list for milk and cheese and the different sizes.

  1. Small Milk- 100G
  2. Medium Milk- 150G
  3. Large Milk- 200G
  4. Grand Milk- 300G
  5. Small Cheese- 300G
  6. Medium Cheese- 400G
  7. Large Cheese- 500G
  8. Grand Cheese- 600
Chickens
Buying a Chicken
To buy a chicken you need 1,500G and a little extra. Go to the poultry farm (where Popuri lives) and talk to Lillia to buy one. Make sure to buy feed also, or else your chicken will go hungry!

Egg/Mayonnaise Prices
There are 3 different types of eggs, each has it's own selling value! Below is the size and price.

  1. Regular Egg- 50G
  2. Golden Egg- 150G
  3. Spa-Boiled Egg- 80G

Once you have the mayonnaise machine (see The Blacksmith page for how to get the mayonnaise machine) you can make mayonnaise. Eggs have different sizes, although they sell for the same prices, but with mayonnaise there is 4 sizes! Below are the sizes and price.

  1. Small Mayonnaise- 100G
  2. Medium Mayonnaise- 150G
  3. Large Mayonnaise- 200G
  4. Grand Mayonnaise- 300G
So as you can see, when you have higher quality eggs and many chickens, you can make a lot of money!

Making your own Fodder

You can make your own fodder and not have to buy it. You can only make fodder in the summer, and to do it you must grow corn. Then go to the water-wheel mill thing next to the chicken coop and throw the corn into it and you'll get fodder!

Winning the Chicken-Sumo Festival

Well, to win the Chicken Sumo, there's really not much of a strategy! You basically need to feed your chicken everyday. Pick the chicken with the most hearts to enter, and just try and win! Make sure to save the day before so if you really want to win, you can re-do the day.

Dog
Hopefully this will give you more information on the dog! So just read on to learn much more about it!

You have your dog from the beginning of the game. It is at first a puppy for 2 seasons, and in fall it will become an adult dog! You have to love and care for your dog the WHOLE game!

The Ball

Many people seem to have trouble with this darned ball. Now, to get it, you don't need to go find Won. He will sell you the ball in early fall, so you don't need to worry about not buying it. Now, keeping track of the ball is pretty hard. Below are some guidelines to follow to be safe with your ball (lol!)

  1. Never throw the ball inside the house, it could get stuck somewhere(I speak from experience)
  2. Never throw the ball in the basket!
  3. Never throw the ball at an animal(like horses and cows)
  4. Never throw the ball in the shipping bin!
  5. Never throw the ball in the water!
There we go. Those are what you should do. However, should you do one of those, you will lose your ball unless you can get it out (mine was stuck in my house table). You have two options if this happens.

  1. Restart the day.
  2. Leave it there and wait for Won to sell you another ball.
To keep the ball, you can't leave it outside or anything and then go to sleep I don't believe. Just keep the ball in the cabinet in your house (you get that with I think the first house extention). Then whenever you feel like you want to play with it, you can just get it out of the cabinet and go play with your dog!

Raising the Heart Level

Raising the heart level for your dog is incredibly easy! There's only a few things you need to do..

  1. Pick up your dog everyday. When you put him down, a little heart bubble appears and he's happy.
  2. Never leave your dog outside in rain, but make sure to let it outside on sunny days.
  3. Whistle for your dog occasionally.
This will quickly raise the heart level. You don't have to worry how fast it rises, he can't be taken away, but it's a plus for the races.

Dog Races

Dog races are hard to beat. You have to do the following things in order to train, but this is not a gaurantee you will win! If someone has any other strategies please e-mail them to me!

  1. Once your dog is old enough, and you get the ball, train with your dog everyday by throwing the ball and letting him retrieve it and bring it back to you.
  2. Whistle for your dog everyday. Try different things like standing on the opposite side of the fence so he jumps and stuff.
  3. Keep your dogs heart level up, it won't work with you in the race if it doesn't love you. The steps to do this are listed above.
Once again, this is not a sure-proof strategy to win, but it works the best!

Breeding...?

In the second year, Barley will come to your house and talk about his dog. He'll ask if he can bring your dog to his house, say yes and your dog will be taken away to Barley's house. However, you can't just abandon it. You must visit it every once in a while and hug it just to keep it's heart level up. It will take a few weeks (I believe 2-3) before they have puppies. You aren't allowed to keep the puppies, but you are allowed to give one away. After this happens, I sort of forget, I think either you are allowed to take your dog home, or Barley drops off your dog.

 Horse
Your horse does not come with the farm. On your first visit to Yodel Ranch(I suggest going as early as possible) you will be asked to take care of a pony. Agree and you'll find yourself in possession of a new pony! It's not old yet, it takes one year for it to be full-grown.

The Stables

Ok, first things first. The stables are near the area near the barn, and it is the last building. It is small, but your horse will live there. It is suggested that you bring your horse out on sunny days, and bring it in on rainy days, but some people have problems moving your horse, here's what you should do so that you can do this.

  1. Build a pen directly outside the horse stables. Make it fairly small, about 4x4 or something. Make sure it is in line with the stables.
  2. Now, when you want to bring your horse out, first remove the log that is directly in the path of where the horse would walk out. Go into the stables and push your horse out. When you get outside keep pushing it and when it's inside the pen, close it.
  3. As long as you do not whistle for your horse, it will stay in it's pen. If you want to whistle for it, stand next to the pen, then when your done whistling, close it back up again.
  4. The day before a rainy day, brings your horse inside. It may take an hour. First, remove the log. Then, you have to get the horse in line with it by pushing. It could take a little while but it's worth it in the end. Finally you can just push your horse inside.
That is the easiest way I've found of keeping your horse outside on sunny days and inside on rainy days. It takes some patience because the horse sometimes runs around, but you'll get the hang of it!

Raising the Heart Level

Raising the heart level for your horse is incredibly important. If you plan on keeping the horse, you have to make it have 8 hearts by the time it has been a year. Below are the steps I had taken to raise my horses level, I was able to get it to I believe 10 hearts by the end of the year (I got to keep it).

  1. As soon as you can afford it, buy the brush for your horse. After you get it, brush your horse everyday.
  2. Talk to your horse everyday.
  3. Whistle for your horse occasionally.
  4. Never leave it out in the rain, but bring it outside on sunny days.
These should work, since they are the methods I have used! Don't EVER hit your horse, that should be a given though!

Horse Races

Horse races cannot be won without your horse loving you. You also have to train it. Once your horse is an adult, take these steps..

  1. Whistle for your horse everyday. Get it to jump over fences and such.
  2. Continue brushing it and not leaving it out in the rain.
  3. Ride your horse everyday. Ride it around the farm a few times and jump over fences.
These are not gaurantees you'll win the horse race, but they are your best bets if you want to!

Lost your Horse

If your horse is taken away, don't worry too much about it, no need to restart the game. Simply plant tons of grass in your field, and Barley will stop by and comment you on them, and ask you to take care of a pony! I'm not sure if this pony can be taken away yet though.

Other Things

Your horse doesn't really do much. The reason most people want one is to either win the horse race or gain more percentage points. The horse though, can also be used as a portable shipping bin. By throwing crops into it's saddlebags, they are automatically put into the shipping bin, which could be very useful. There are only a few problems, like if your horse moves when you throw it, but it's worth it.

Ok, well I hope this answers some questions! If you have any other information, please send it in!

 Sheep

Buying Sheep
The sheep should be the third animal you consider buying (after the chickens and cows). They cost 4,000G, and when you buy them they come as an adult and are ready to be sheared. You buy sheep at the Yodel Farm.

Raising Heart Levels
To raise heart levels, you need fodder, shears and a brush. Talk, brush, shear and feed your sheep EVERYDAY to make it's heart level go up! Again, like cows, you don't have to take your sheep outside. In fact I don't recommend it. It's a waste of time, and if it's going to rain and you have many cows and sheep, it would take a long time to bring them all inside (they're so slow in BTN!)

Sheep Festival
In Back to Nature, there is a sheep festival! You can enter your sheep and it is "judged" and the winner starts producing Grand wool (best). To win, is easy. Basically, like the cow festival, your sheep needs to have 10 hearts to easily win. This can be done by using the tips in Raising Heart Levels. Also! You can't enter your sheep if it does not have wool, so if it is 2 weeks away from the festival (in the game) and your sheep can be sheared, DON'T do it! It might not grow back in time!

Wool/Yarn Ball Selling Prices
Wool is very pricey to sell, but you only get it about once a week from a sheep. If you have a Yarn Ball machine, you can convert Wool into Yarn Balls which sell for even more money! Below is the list of how much each size is when you sell it.

  1. Small Wool- 100G
  2. Medium Wool- 400G
  3. Large Wool- 500G
  4. Grand Wool- 600G
  5. Small Yarn Ball- 300G
  6. Medium Yarn Ball- 700G
  7. Large Yarn Ball- 800G
  8. Grand Yarn Ball- 1000G

Again, a yarn ball maker is a VERY good investment!
 Fish
Catching Fish
Well, you can't catch fish without a fishing rod. To get this, go to the dock at around 8 in the morning or I believe 7 at night, and make sure you have an open spot in your rucksack for a tool. Talk to Greg the fisherman and he'll give you a fishing rod. Now you can fish whenever you feel like it for free! Simply cast the fishing rod and wait until it shakes (or your controller vibrates if you have a rumble controller) then let go of the button. Sometimes you catch shoes and tin cans (which you can give to May, she likes them) but occasionally you'll catch a fish. You can either keep this fish, or you can put it in your fish pond! The fish pond is located near the tree on your farm, simply throw the fish in and you now have a pet fish!

Taking Care of Your New Fish
Now you have a pet fish, but you need to take care of it! You need to buy fish food at the supermarket. It costs 20G for ever piece of fish food. Now, if you have let's say, 20 fish in your pond, you only need to put ONE fish food in the pond everyday! Make sure to feed your fish EVERY day!

How Do Fish Reproduce
Now, your fish can reproduce by themselves in your fish pond, but this takes a while. Firstly, you need to feed your fish every day. Now, if you are doing this, don't expect to see your nubmer of fish increase in a day or two. It takes about oh, 15-20 days for more fish to appear. You can check how many fish you have by going to the start menu and the number by the fish. All you need to do is have patience and feed your fish!
